Should Golf Be in the Olympics?
Golf is one of the most played sports in the world that is not in the Olympics. With the popularity of the game not as strong without Tiger Woods, who is golf’s figurehead. The reason for golf in the Olympics would not be a money issue as more money is to be had with the PGA Championship that occurred during the opening weekend of the Olympics paying off more than any country would offer for an Olympic medal. The best thing that could happen for golf internationally would be to put it in the Olympics to gain it some popularity from viewers worldwide. By being noticed worldwide more golfers could be in a position to compete with Tiger Woods and try to close the gap because some athletes would rather play a game such as soccer because it is popular in their country rather than taking up a sport like golf since it is less recognizable. By giving golf some international recognition from an Olympic tournament style of play for a weekend, golf as a whole could be in for some big changes and the level of play could be increased within a few years as more and more players worldwide begin to play.
