Soccer Should be Played like “Football” in United States
The game of ”football” is an international sport that draws thousands of people into large stadiums to watch some of the best athletes in the world perform magical moves with a ball on a pitch where emotions flow and rival club teams vie for Champions League titles. Millions upon millions of dollars are spent in order to acquire some of the world’s greatest players and make sure they do not go to another club that could challenge for a title. What truly makes the game of “football” an extraordinary is the players. The players who participate in the game play a style that requires a level of skill and raw athleticism that is hard to replicate by the average player.
Soccer is the name of the “same” game previously mentioned. The players who play in the MLS are not all as skilled as those who play over in Europe, and they play a different style than those who play in America. While the American teams are trying to get more and more like the Europeans, the MLS will never be like them unless they begin to make a conceded effort to spend what is necessary to acquire the talent they need to play the game the way it should be played. The separation of the game was especially evident in a scrimmage between the MLS New York team and FC Barcelona. While it was only a scrimmage, Barcelona completely dominated the game and they did not even have one of their better players from Argentina in Messi. While the MLS team scored twice they lost by four and had little control of the ball in Barcelona’s half of the field the entire match. Until the MLS game can make the change, many fans will continue to watch the international matches rather than MLS matches.
